Tags - Ways to Reuse Takeaway Boxes
We all love a good takeaway, especially when you can’t be bothered to cook.
But after a while, takeaway boxes can quickly begin to pile up in the cupboard - you don’t throw them away because you know you’ll use them for something, but you never do.
Now, you could just throw them away and recycling is one option, but more often than not, they still end up in landfills.
So why not upcycle them and use them around the house instead?
If you’re not too sure how, here are 6 clever ways you can reuse your takeaway boxes at home.
If you’re into fitness or just like to prep all your meals on a Sunday for the rest of the week, use your takeaway boxes to portion out lunch and dinners.
Doing so will give you an easy grab-and-go meal whenever you need it.
Plus, these can even be stored in the freezer, so you can prepare meals for the future - just don’t put them in the microwave when it’s time to eat!
On the other hand, you can use takeaway boxes to get ingredients ready. For instance, get all your peeling and chopping done, store away and get it out when you’re ready to cook.
If you’re getting ready for a road trip, you know how important having snacks are.
But feeding the family when on the road can be quite tricky,
Survive the trip by adding snacks into takeaway boxes; you could even customise its contents for each passenger, and you won’t have to worry about empty packets and rubbish on the floor of the car.
Have you ever been in a position where you’ve purchased something but then you realise you need to return it back to the store, only to panic because you can’t find the receipt?
This happens all the time! And it’s because we often chuck receipts into a “safe place”, which is too safe you forget where it is.
As such, you can reuse takeaway boxes by placing one in a fixed place - perhaps the top kitchen drawer - and store all your receipts in there.
And so you’ll have your very own receipt box and won’t have to worry about losing them again.
For board games that have a lot of small, fiddly pieces or cards, you can store them in a takeaway box to keep them together and stop them from getting lost. There’s nothing worse than sitting down to play a game, only to notice a piece is missing.
In fact, you can do this for multiple games in separate boxes - just remember to label them so you know which pieces are for which game!
The dreaded junk drawer…
No one cleans it because it looks too scary and over time it becomes more and more cluttered.
Sound familiar?
But it doesn’t have to be that way!
Instead, upcycle your takeaway boxes into drawer organisers and use separate containers for pens, staples, paper clips and other bits and bobs.
If you’re into art or have little children, takeaway boxes or even just the lids alone make a great paint tray.
Rather than using fine china or buying a special painter’s palette, use your old containers to blend colours or to keep colours separate.
Plus, painting and children is a recipe for disaster, but you won't have to worry about them breaking or ruining anything as the pain is inside the takeaway container.
As an added bonus, if there’s any leftover paint you can just snap the lid on to stop it from drying out and reuse for a different day.
More and more restaurants and fast food takeaways are using containers that are not always recyclable, and therefore end up in landfills - even if consumers are rinsing them and disposing of them in the correct bins.
And so, rather than relying on recycling services, consider upcycling those takeaway boxes around the house using these clever ways above.
