LPG Cylinders in Cooking Equipment

Tags - LPG Cylinders in Cooking Equipment

Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a mixture of hydrocarbon gases, the most common being butane and propane, and it is a by-product of natural gas extraction and crude oil refining.

At normal room temperature, LPG is not toxic and is both colourless and odorless.

However, in cooler conditions it turns into liquid, which reduces the volume of the product and makes it easy to store and transport LPG in cylinders: a LPG cylinder is filled with 80% liquid and 20% gas.

What is LPG Used For?

You may not have known this, but LPG is used in a lot of different ways everyday at home.

Typically, LPG gas is supplied in 45kg cylinders for the home and is used for things like cooking, heating, refrigerators, deodorants and more.

But it doesn’t stop there - it’s also used for leisure activities like boats, caravans, camping and even hot air balloons!

Cooking

Cooking gas is produced using the same LPG gas manufacturing process.

And it is no different to the typical gas distributed in a given country. If it comes in a gas cylinder, it’s the same as the LPG heating fuel in that country whereas if the cooking gas comes in a pipe form, it’s usually a natural gas - usually methane.

In terms of size, a BBQ gas cylinder is usually 9kg and a domestic cooking gas cylinder is 14.2kg or 45kg. And the cylinders are typically made from steel or aluminium vessels.

Catering

LPG cylinders are the perfect choice if you’re in the catering industry.

Whether it’s for the bar, restaurant, kitchens or mobile vans, LPG cylinders are flexible and reliable to keep things like stoves, ovens, flamers, roasters etc. running for perfectly cooked food every time.

So it’s no wonder why chefs love using LPG cylinders - it ignites instantly, the flame is not hidden, it burns without any black smoke and it distributes heat evenly across the base of cooking.

5 Benefits of Using LPG as a Cooking Fuel

Here are some benefits of using LPG as a cooking fuel as opposed to conventional fuels like wood or charcoal.

  1. LPG releases fewer pollutants than any other fuel, making it a cleaner choice.
  2. LPG emits 5-16 times lower greenhouse gas emissions.
  3. 45kg of LPG can create the same amount of thermal energy as half a tonne of wood.
  4. It’s convenient to use, easy to light and heats up instantly
  5. LPG is easy to store and transport
